1001 Auckland
New Zealand
Built in 1928, the heritage Windsor Building is now the Hotel Grand Windsor; the top luxury hotel in Auckland and winner of the World's Best New Hotel. The Hotel Grand Windsor is situated in the heart of Auckland’s Queen Street, the city’s most vibrant and dynamic precinct, offering a wide range of chic hospitality, world-class entertainment, and luxury retail.
Hotel Grand Windsor is the perfect blend of classic and art deco designs with sumptuous accents of elegance and charm from a bygone era. The hotel has been meticulously and extensively refurbished in order to offer a unique level of luxury among hotel rooms in Auckland.
The Hotel Grand Windsor was first built as Windsor House in 1928 by W.R Cooke & Son Ltd. The 10-storey building - as 10 floors was the maximum height allowed at the time - was known as Auckland’s first skyscraper, and became a popular place to be seen for locals and visitors alike.
In the year 2000, the building was bought and turned into a 3-star hotel. In 2017 it underwent a multi-million dollar restoration and became the 5-star Hotel Grand Windsor, as part of the MGallery by Sofitel family.
With no expense spared, this great building has once again reclaimed the glory and prestige of its former years, and stands as an important part of Auckland’s social, cultural and architectural history. It represents an era of economic prosperity and elegance before the Great Depression took hold and much was lost.
Windsor House, now the Hotel Grand Windsor, survived it all and is an incredible tribute to our past and now host to some of the most stunning hotel suites Auckland can offer. Visit the website today to view their host of luxurious rooms and sweets and book a stay.
