Harrika’s Brew Haus opened on October 25, 2007 as a tribute to owner Erika Worden’s late grandmother. Embodying the true spirit of family, the Haus has been inviting customers into a house with so many wonderful aromas whether coming from the beer being poured, the coffee being brewed or the tea being steeped. Harrika’s has such an inviting feel that folks always want to stay to hear live music being played on Friday nights or enjoy a cheese plate on their back patio. In short, she urges them to seize the teas and peruse the brews! Many ask why beer? The answer is simple: Germans love beer. With the passing of Erika’s Grandmother Hanna and all her hard work being an immigrant from Germany after WW2. Erika’s grandmother says fondly, “You can’t just sit at the beach Erika…you have to do something”. Being a hard worker by nature & having a lineage of entrepreneurs Erika didn’t take these words lightly after leaving her career with the E&J Gallo Winery she moved to Carteret County to marry her husband Harry. In keeping with her grandmother’s wise words and her secret love of beer Harry and Erika rescued a home built in the 1950’s and completely restored it to the Harrika’s Brew Haus we know today – Full of Life! Incorporating Erika’s and her mother Helga’s love of tea and coffee. Erika’s favorite thing to say about her mother as the beer inventory increases, “Erika do you sell more tea or more beer” Erika laughs, “a little of everything”. The Haus has become a local favorite, Erika and Harry plan on keeping it that way for all the new friends they have met and those they have yet to meet! Prost!
