ABOUT THE APPETIZER...

Alfonzo Artiano left the isle of Ischia (near Capri) in 1955 to join his father in San Pedro. After working in the restaurant business for several years, his dream of opening his own restaurant was realized in 1972 when he opened the first Appetizer on Deep Valley Drive.

Al oversees a busy kitchen whether it be when popular sandwiches are being prepared or in the preparation of Italian specialties made from Mama Lucy's own recipes.

When the Appetizer first opened many of the customers were youngsters who stopped by after visiting the library. They, in turn, told their parents - word of mouth and customer satisfaction have been most effective for Al Artiano. Those young people (now many with children of their own), their parents and friends still return for the well-prepared, tasty dishes served seven days a week.

Catering and take-out services are also available and are popular features at The Appetizer.

Our newest location opened in Spring 2013 on the corner of Pacific Coast Highway and Ocean Ave. This location is overseen by Al Artiano's son, John, keeping in line with the family owned traditions of the original Appetizer.
