What triggered two best buddies, Dato' Chef Ismail Ahmad (a bubbly celebrity chef) and Datuk Dr. Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor ( a charming doctor and Malaysia's first Angkasawan) to open a restaurant?
Rebung or bamboo shoot is a delicacy in authentic Malay Cuisine, and is also a metaphor in the proverb, "it is best to bend a bamboo from its shoot" or "melentur buluh biar dari rebungnya."
Dato' Chef Ismail, Malaysia's well known Celebrity Chef, famous for his meticulous preparation of local dishes, prepares traditionally a variety of authentic Malay dishes.
He stressed that it is imperative that our traditional recipes and culinary heritage is preserved and not forgotten as most of the dishes served at Rebung are already forgotten or not familiar to the younger generation.
