El Gordo Mexican Restaurant
El Gordo (The Big One) offers an INSANELY LARGE STEAK BURRITO, by far the largest this side of the border.
Known for speedy service, and huge portions of authentic Mexican dinners.
Looking at it from the outside, you may be reluctant to enter El Gordo Restaurant; a hideous orange paint soaks the building. However, you'd be doing yourself a disservice if you didn't at least give it a shot. This Belmont-Cragin spot is Chicago's best-kept secret when it comes to authentic Mexican cuisine.
An insipid interior may deter you even further, but you'll at least give the restaurant credit for the replicated sky painted on the ceiling, not to mention the beautiful Virgin Mary mural. But when it comes down to it, El Gordo is really just about the food.
Marcos, who is the former co-owner of the well known Tecalitlan Mexican Restaurant located near Ukrainian Village at Chicago Ave & Wood St "a once hidden gem" now that restaurant survives only on its reputation from many years gone by and since his departure Tecalitlan has been downgraded to an artsie, local yocal eatery for people who eat subpar food.
Marcos continues on with El Gordo Mexican Restaurant bringing over 35 years serving authentic mexican family dinners that can't be matched.
Plan a visit for a Mexican dinner of a lifetime, you won't be disappointed.
