DEPO is restaurant/bar, cafe, gallery and popup store in one.
Designed in every detail, Depo focuses on creating an experience while
enjoying the seasonal daily changing menu.
Depo, set to open in West End, Brisbane is the latest venture from designer Alexander Lotersztain.
A collaboration between Lotersztain and chef Chef Erik van Genderen (formerly Blauw aan de Wal, Amsterdam), Depo will offer patrons a warm café environment during the day and a fine dining experience in the evening.
At its heart Depo is about bringing people together.
“We want to show people that a venue can be more than just a café or a restaurant. We want it to be somewhere people can come together and experience a sense of possibility,” Lotersztain said.
“That sense of whimsy flows through every aspect of Depo. As the light changes, so too does the venue. It’s a café by day and a restaurant by night. It'll be open and airy by day, dark and cosy by night… a bit Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde.
“We want people to feel welcome as soon as they enter the space, which will be highly curated from a design perspective, using lighting, surfaces, colour palette, furniture and sound in a raw warehouse setting.
“People need to be able to laugh with their families in the sunshine, be inspired to create beautiful art, talk business and fall in love at Depo. We want it to draw communities together and become part of the fabric of the streetscape and the city.”
Van Genderen said the thread running through the menus would be the level of quality of the produce, seasonality and a European sensibility.
“Fresh baked breads and pastries during the day and a simple, yet elegant dining during the evening,” he said.
“We want it to be a very welcoming place, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t focus carefully on the quality of experience for our patrons.”
