Like the hole in a bagel, the future is wide open!
In 1996, a team of American and Czech entrepreneurs opened Bohemia Bagel because they had a feeling that more health-conscious offerings would appeal to the Czech people and would be appreciated by the huge influx of tourists arriving in the “Golden City” after the Velvet Revolution of 1989. The featured item on the menu would be a variety of bread made from all natural ingredients with a hole in the middle. Already wildly popular in the West – the bagel was introduced to Prague.
At first, the Czech people were somewhat bewildered, not only by the bagel but by the varied menu and the first freely refillable cup of coffee ever offered in the Czech Republic. Plus, the welcoming atmosphere and Internet and telephone services in some locations made Bohemia Bagel one of Prague’s best-known gathering spots. And once the native Czechs witnessed how much their kids loved nibbling on a freshly baked bagel, it was only a matter of time before they kept coming back for more.
Today, there are three Bohemia Bagel restaurants, one central bakery and wholesale manufactory in Prague all offering much more than bagels and coffee. All serve made-to-order salads, sandwiches, soups, delicious desserts and a variety of grilled options: from American-style breakfasts of bacon and eggs to hamburgers and French-fries. Opened in the Prague neighborhood of Holešovice in 2007, the first Bohemia Bagel Unique Prague restaurant features daily Czech specialties by our executive chef, table service and a full bar. And we have a brand new central kitchen and bakery designed to produce enough bagels and baked goods to meet the demands of a growing wholesale business.
