Pickwick Stables, the smallest structure by far, measuring, 19' wide by 19' deep, was constructed for family horses by Henry Horner in the 1800's, the Governor's grandfather, local flour merchant and grocer. Later in its life, the building was known for its cozy atmosphere as Col. Abson's English Chop House entertaining politicians and actors alike. In 1907 a third floor was added and the building served as Pickwick Café. Despite surviving the Chicago Fire and being encompassed by the enormity of Chicago's rising skyline, this space continues to maintain its interesting character as the central façade of the project.
